It's no secret that our bodies change as we age. As a Senior Fitness Instructor, Trainer and Speaker, it's my job to know how to handle the unique health and fitness challenges that many older adults face.
With increasing age there is normal decrease in sensory function, muscular strength, reaction time, flexibility, and cognitive processing.
The great news is that exercise has proven to be effective in improving senior's functional capacities and sense of well-being. As a senior fitness instructor I can make the difference in the lives of my clients and class participants by improving their health and fitness, while encouraging social interaction and a healthier lifestyle in a fun and motivating way.

Fit 'n FallProof
Are your members concerned with balance or afraid of falling?
Maintaining balance and mobility is essential to aging successfully.
Keep balance in your life
Fit-N-FallProof™ is a fitness & balance program for seniors including those with special conditions to help participants perform basic activities of daily living, such as rising from a chair or climbing a flight of stairs.
Sit & Be Fit
It’s rewarding to hear older-adult participants say they can more easily perform activities of daily living as a result of taking this class.
Participants at a low level of physical function are especially likely to notice a difference.
Working with these individuals in a group setting requires seated activities, to ensure safety and success.
This class uses approaches and practical applications from an introductory level called “Build Me Up,” which emphasizes seated strength-building and mobility exercises for participants at a low functional level and at high risk for falls.
Sit & Be Fit for people with dementia
Leading a physically active lifestyle can have a significant impact on the well-being of people with dementia.
People with dementia can benefit from a regular program of seated exercise sessions at a senior care facility or with a group at a local class.
These exercises are aimed at building or maintaining muscle strength and balance, and are less strenuous than exercises in a standing position. They are part of a developing program, with the number of repetitions of each exercise increased over time. Some examples of seated exercises include: marching, bending legs, heel/toe raises, raising legs/arms, arm circles, raising opposite arm/leg, clapping and turning side to side.

How to become FallProof
Falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries for people aged 65+. Falls can result in hip fractures, broken bones, and head injuries. And even falls without a major injury can cause an older adult to become fearful or depressed, making it difficult for them to stay active.
There is a pattern to falls among the elderly: The fear of falling, then the injury, followed by hospitalization, decreased independence and mobility, and often relocation to a nursing or residential institution.
Falls can be a major life-changing event that robs the elderly of their independence.
Fortunately, many falls can be prevented with healthy lifestyle choices and safety modifications in the home. This presentation teaches seniors how to cope with balance, how to exercise to prevent falls and what to do if they fall.

Exercise Videos
Is the coronavirus pandemic keeping you from exercising? Please enjoy this free video with an effective 30-minute exercise routine. Whether you're a senior or not it takes you through sitting and standing exercises to maintain or improve your balance and strength for movements that you need for everyday activities. The routine can easily be done at home using a chair for support. If you have you can use light weights to enhance the strength exercises in the video. Please do not share weights at this time. Make sure you're steady and strong enough to handle the exercises. You're encouraged to stand, as long as you can stand with minimal support. Otherwise, you can stay seated during the entire routine. Use the routine regularly. A few times a week would be great! Enjoy - don't sit, get fit!
